• 5 Common Skincare Mistakes

    Posted by DRMTLGY Blog

Most people are creatures of habit - day in and day out they repeat what they know and what's easy. But what if some of those habits are damaging your skin? Here are five common mistakes that could be damaging your skin and how to fix them.

    1. Over Exfoliating

Some sort of exfoliation product should be in your skin care routine, however, over exfoliating could be damaging to your skin. Over exfoliating can strip away the protective layer of your skin, making it more susceptible to things like pollution, environmental toxins, and sun damage. All of these things will help speed up the skin's aging process. Stick to healthy exfoliation by exfoliating 2-3 times per week.

    2. Not Wearing Sun Screen Every Day

Sun screen isn't just for the beach. The easiest and most effective way to prevent premature aging is to protect your skin with a great sun screen - and lots of it! Products like our Broad Spectrum SPF 45, Everyday Moisturizing SPF 20, and Dynamic SPF 30 all protect against the most damaging rays: UVB and UVA. Find out the difference between them.

    3. Falling Asleep With Your Make Up On

If you fall asleep with your make up on every once in a while, it's not going to kill you. However, making it a habit is very damaging to your skin. Leaving your make up on will clog your pores and oil glands, leading to frequent break outs and enlarged-looking pores.

    4. Not Changing Your Pillowcase Often Enough

Sleeping on a dirty pillowcase is not only hygienically gross, it's detrimental to your skin. Pillowcases absorb hair products and oils that clog pores on your face overtime. If you are acne-prone, flip your pillowcase after 2 nights and wash your pillowcase after that.

    5. Not Moisturizing Oily Skin

There's a common misconception that people with oily skin should avoid moisturizing to avoid having extremely oily skin. In fact, it's quite the opposite. People with oily skin should be applying a heavy moisturizing cream (like our Hydration Booster 10X) to give oily skin the moisture it needs. Without it, oily skin will overcompensate and produce even more oil. This can lead to break outs and uneven skin texture.
